Three-dimensional ultrasound (3DUS) has the potential to provide improved visualization of the fetal anatomic morphology compared with conventional two-dimensional ultrasound imaging. The present paper reviews 3DUS studies in the diagnosis, evaluation and prediction of FGR, and discusses the possible clinical applications of 3DUS. a 2012, Elsevier Taiwan LLC and the Chinese Taipei Society of Ultrasound in Medicine. Biological Effect of Modern Fetal Ultrasound Techniques on Human Dermal Fibroblast Cells

Background: Diagnostic ultrasound has been used to detect human disease especially fetus abnormalities in recent decades. Although the harmful effects of diagnostic ultrasound on human have not been established so far, several researchers showed it has had bioeffects in cell lines and in experimental animals. Three-dimensional (3D), four-dimensional (4D), and color Doppler sonography are new te...

Reduced placental volume and flow in severe growth restricted fetuses

OBJECTIVES To evaluate placental volume and vascular indices in pregnancies with severe fetal growth restriction and determine their correlations to normal reference ranges and Doppler velocimetry results of uterine and umbilical arteries. METHODS Twenty-seven fetuses with estimated weights below the 3rd percentile for gestational age were evaluated. Placental volume and vascular indices, inc...

ACR Appropriateness Criteria® growth disturbances - risk of intrauterine growth restriction.

Fetal growth disturbances include fetuses at risk for intrauterine growth restriction. These fetuses may have an estimated fetal weight at less than the 10% or demonstrate a plateau of fetal growth with an estimated fetal growth greater than the 10%. Uteroplacental insufficiency may play a major role in the etiology of intrauterine growth restriction. Fetuses at risk for intrauterine fetal grow...
